In May and June of 2004, the owners and employees of Roscoe Steel & Culvert celebrated a huge milestone together, that of 50 years of growth, professional accomplishment and family participation. We proudly share this event with you in the following information and photos.

Roscoe Steel & Culvert was formed in 1954 from a partnership of the Roscoe, Brown and Shaw families of Billings, Montana. Principals were Bill Roscoe, Rockwood Brown Senior and Charles Shaw. Mr. Shaw passed away early in the company’s history and the Brown-Roscoe interest carried on with Bill Roscoe as the company’s first President. The original plant was located at 1420 Montana Avenue south of Pierce Packing and produced culvert pipe. In 1965, a Missoula plant location was established through the acquisition of Farm Sales, Inc. Jim Roscoe joined the company in 1969 and in 1975 the Roscoe’s purchased the Brown family interest in the company.

In 1977, the company’s first modern manufacturing plant was erected West of Billings on Hesper Road. This plant was dedicated to manufacturing of fabricated structural steel. In 1979, a second plant was built at the same location to produce culvert pipe, and in 1981 a spiral corrugated steel pipe mill was installed on the Hesper Road site. In 1986, Bill and Emily Roscoe sold their majority to Jim and Lin Roscoe, and Bill retired from the company.

Other major milestones included:

  • The 1990 construction of a new Missoula Plant in the Momont Industrial Park
  • In 1995, a Wheelabrator for cleaning structural steel fabrications, and a new CNC angle line was installed in the Billings plant
  • In 1998, the Billings structural fabrication plant was expanded by 50% and a CNC plate processor was installed
  • In October of 1998, Bill Roscoe passed away
  • 1999 saw the acquisition of Culvert & Industrial Supply Company (CISCO) of Casper, Wyoming, and in the years that follow, the major rebuilding of Casper’s plant and equipment
  • In 2003, further upgrades to both the Billings and Missoula operations were completed through the installation of a CNC drill line and heavy sawing equipment in Billings and a significant yard expansion in Missoula
  • In 2006, the Company re-aligned to a Business Unit structure that provides focus in our three primary markets, Roscoe Culvert, Roscoe Steel and Roscoe Bridge

Today, Roscoe Steel & Culvert employs approximately 225 people with an annual payroll that exceeds $8,000,000. The company produces almost 20,000 tons per year of steel construction products and ships to customers in states throughout the West and many in the East.

Roscoe Steel & Culvert wishes to thank all its loyal customers who have supported it throughout the years and pledges to maintain its quality and service and still be a part of Billings, Missoula, and Casper when a 75 year celebration rolls around.
