First, it is important to recognize that Roscoe Steel is a division of Roscoe Steel & Culvert and forms one of the three Business Units that serves as the platform for the company. From a market perspective, Roscoe Steel is a specialty steel fabricator that focuses the skills and expertise of the Team on:
- Complex structural fabrication for industrial and building construction, and
- Highway bridge fabrication.
Roscoe Steel’s primary fabrication facility is located in the Billings, Montana headquarters plant; however, both the Missoula, Montana and Casper, Wyoming plants provide structural fabrications for local, regional requirements.
The common denominator in all three Business Units within Roscoe Steel & Culvert, is “steel”. Whether it be corrugated steel pipe from Roscoe Culvert, Design-Build steel bridges from Roscoe Bridge, or complex steel fabrications from Roscoe Steel, the core competencies of our trades are welding, fitting, manufacturing, fabricating, and marketing engineered steel solutions for our customers.
Roscoe Steel’s range of marketing and operations extends from the Pacific Ocean, including the huge California market with extensive seismic welding and fabrication requirements, throughout the West to the Mississippi River. This seems like a huge market area; however, Roscoe Steel picks and chooses the projects that we can add significant and unique value to for our customers. The key to this selection process lies in the following question and answer.

The picture noted above is a great example of a “Complex Structure” that requires the skill and experience of a “Specialty Fabricator”. This high school building is being erected in California which has unique and onerous seismic welding requirements that typically include:
- AISC Complex Building Certifications,
- special non-destructive and destructive testing,
- FEMA Welding and AWS D1.8 welding specifications, and
- sloped, skewed, and special “fish-mouthed” cuts, bevels and welds for both strength and architectural appeal.
